Personal Museum Visit - Essay Example The medium of painting used is – oil on canvas, and depicts a great attention to detail which is evident from the oxen grazing in the field in the background, the fine lines of the subject itself (i.e. the model), the detailing i.e. the attire worn, the pose, the props used (the stick held by the shepherdess) etc. add authenticity to the painting. The word Pastourelle is a French term for Shepherdess. Great attention to detail is given to the subject, and the painting depicts a careful and in-depth study of the subject as is seen from the form and technique used. The tenderness with which the shape and face structure of the model is drawn, highlights the artists attention to line and form. Good use of lighting is done through use of pastel colors used in the background, as well as the color of clothes worn by the model. The use of colors helps in highlighting the main subject of attention, i.e. the shepherdess (in this case) and specially brings to fore the subtle nuances of personality and mood of the subject. The basic intention of the artist was to highlight the daily lives of shepherds during the 18th century. Several artists in those days were known for their beautiful depiction of real life, through art by using oil on canvas. This artist too follows the pattern, and has drawn several other similarly themed close to life characters, by using real models.
